We were all awed and moved to tears by Connor’s wonderful performance on America’s Got Talent as a Wildcard returning contestant. We ALL know he has talent, and anyone who has tried to fly Indoors knows what it takes! It was great to see him chosen to return and then to win another round. We’re sad to see him off the show and grateful for the awareness he’s brought to indoor kite flying.

August 21, 2010

UNDER THE BIG TOP

Here’s an early reminder. It’s time to begin collecting items for the Museum auction that others can’t live without. This includes many, many possibilities. Of course there’s anything pertaining to kite flying – kites, line, bags, line laundry, tie downs etc. Then there’s things to decorate you, your house, your car, your workplace that is kite related. Oh, don’t forget things to eat or drink, special coupons for lodging and buying at stores. Coupons to entertainment, events, who knows. And I imagine you’ll discover more. Your donations and purchases contribute to the success of the Museum.

Early bird tickets are $20. At the door they are $25.

Food will be more upscale than a hot dog on a stick. The committee promises to not sell more tickets at the door than the amount of food ordered. The Elk’s banquet door opens at 5:30 pm for the no-host bar, bag raffle and silent auction. Food served at 6:15 pm. The Loud Auction begins at 7:30. There’s fun to be had by all.

In May’s eletter be prepared for suggestions for how to easily create a costume. If you have ideas, tell us: info@worldkitemuseum.com. We’ll put them in that eletter.

At the Museum

How about a kite making workshop at the World Kite Museum in Long Beach, WA taught by Robert Brasington on Sunday, October 10, the day before the 2010 AKA Convention in Seaside, OR only a 45 minute drive from Long Beach.

Robert will be conducting the workshop on the weekend before the Convention to teach interested kite makers the finer points of the Star Kite. Multiple Star kites make up the Star Train and participants can choose to purchase kits either as a single, or any number up to a stack of six. Make one or more at the workshop and finish the remainder at home at your leisure. Each kite is 500mm x 500 mm with a 3-meter Organza tail. Individual kite kits will have 4 shades of a specific colour.

Museum expenses are $10 per person and the price of each kite is $27.50 Ausd. (The price in US dollars will depend on the exchange rate on the day but today that would be approximately $23).

Positions are limited and we all know Robert’s workshops fill quickly. Don’t delay, register your interest now. Final acceptances up to August 1st if not filled before.

Please indicate how many of the 6 you would like to pre order.

P.S. Don’t forget you’ll need your own sewing machine and relevant sewing kit.

Please send your class registration (name and email address) to the World Kite Museum’s email address info@worldkitemuseum.com

SPECIAL KITE MAKING EXHIBIT
February 13, 14, & 15, 2010

This one time opportunity gives you a chance to see kite making using the bargello quilting technique for its design. You can watch, listen and ask lots of questions. The whole museum will be dedicated to kite making on these three days.

John Freeman’s class has two remaining spots open; call now! 360-642-4020

This kite is a tribute to Margaret Greger, a greatly missed lovely lady, excellent kite builder, and author of the best books of kite building for beginners. From the first time I saw Margaret’s version of this kite I was in love.

This is a five foot tall Rokakku. You will build the kite in one of two versions, both the same in every way except for a half day more cutting and sewing in one of them. Your choice, of course, of colors and color layout. There will even be a nice bit left over that is almost a ready made banner to match the kite.

Lots of sewing, but sure–you can do it!

Below is picture of the kite, as well as a picture just for fun (photo by Steve Brown) of the banners Marzlie made from the scraps off the three prototype kites for the class.

There are two cost possibilities for this class. If you use your own fabric, the cost is $70. If you need fabric from instructor John Freeman, then the class costs $120.

Stay tuned for more information or call 360-642-4020 or email info@worldkitemuseum.com
