Beamguard Kite Workshop

Beamguard Kite Workshop

President’s Weekend - Saturday through Monday
February 17, 18, 19, 2018

Come enjoy a weekend of fun and relaxation making a train of 3 to 5 heart shaped kites of nylon and fiberglass.

This kite was designed by René Maier, an internationally known kitemaker from Switzerland. René taught this kite at the Fort Worden Kitemaker’s Conference (FWKM) at Warm Beach, WA, in 2017. The kite is 33.5 inches high and 31.5 inches wide and is a fine flyer in low and steady winds. Cost will be approximately $18/kite with a one-time $20 fee to the museum. A variety of colors will be offered.

Rod Beamguard has taught a different kite each of the last 6 years in the annual President’s Day weekend kite workshop at the museum in Long Beach. Rod is a retired public school teacher who has been making kites for 40 years. He has won competitions in kitemaking and taught many kitemaking classes at the Fort Worden Kitemakers Conference and the Oregon Kitemakers Retreat. In February 2017 Rod was a featured instructor at the Upper Midwest Area Kitemaking Event in Oregon, Illinois. He also serves on the board of the Fort Worden Kitemakers Conference.
