Indoor Kite Flying

Wayne & Sonia Turner, Event Directors

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Long Beach Elementary School
400 S. Washington, Long Beach

Don’t miss the unique and exciting indoor kite flying at Long Beach Elementary School on Washington Avenue & South 4th Street.

Flyers perform individually and sometimes in twos or threes.  The flying is choreographed to the beat and mood of a predetermined piece of music.

3:00 – 6:15 pm   Open Gym for flyers

   6:15 – 7:00 pm   Setup & Warmup for Demos

   7:00 – 8:30 pm   Indoor Demos

3:00 – 6:15 pm  Open Gym for flyers

   6:15 – 7:00 pm  Setup & Warmup for Competition

7:00 – 8:30 pm  Indoor Single Line Competition

5:00 – 6:15 pm   Open Gym for flyers

   6:15 – 7:00 pm  Setup & Warmup for Competition

   7:00 – 8:30 pm   Indoor Unlimited Competition

The kites used are very lightweight so the flier can keep the kite airborne by moving the feet and maneuvering the kite to keep a little tension on the lines.

Some performers will create a graceful ballet.  Others will perform a variety of acrobatics.

Once a competition performance has started the doors are closed and no one is allowed in or out until the performer is done.  This is because the opening of the door can cause a draft that affects the flight of the kite.

Top Kid On The Beach & Super Senior

Wednesday through…

Ballots must be cast by 4:30 pm on Saturday

There are always several special folks on the beach who spend a great deal of time and energy at WSIKF doing things to attract kids to the sport of kiting. This award is to acknowledge their efforts.  .

Ballots are available Wednesday morning at the Kids’ Day Registration Table and Wednesday afternoon through Saturday at the AKA Headquarters next to the Red & White Activities Tent.

Please nominate people you see on the beach who you feel should receive this award in each category:

Be sure to also fill in WHY you think the person you nominate should receive this award.  All nomination forms will eventually be passed on to the named people so that they know that their efforts are appreciated and they will be encouraged to do it again next year!

These awards will be based BOTH on the written nominations and on awards made for efforts in the Kids’ Day events on Wednesday.  TOP KID ON THE BEACH and SUPER SENIOR awards will be announced and honored at the World Kite Museum Awards on Saturday night.
