Washington State International Kite Festival
MULTIPLE DAY EVENTS
INDOOR KITE FLYING
Wayne & Sonia Turner, Event Directors
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
Long Beach Elementary School
Don’t miss the unique and exciting indoor kite flying at Long Beach Elementary School on Washington Avenue & South 4th Street.
Flyers perform individually and sometimes in twos or threes. The flying is choreographed to the beat and mood of a predetermined piece of music.
Wednesday:
3:00 – 6:15 pm Open Gym for flyers
6:15 – 7:00 pm Setup & Warmup for Demos
7:00 – 8:30 pm Indoor Demos
Thursday:
3:00 – 6:15 pm Open Gym for flyers
6:15 – 7:00 pm Setup & Warmup for Competition
7:00 – 8:30 pm Indoor Single Line Competition
Friday:
5:00 – 6:15 pm Open Gym for flyers
6:15 – 7:00 pm Setup & Warmup for Competition
7:00 – 8:30 pm Indoor Unlimited Competition
The kites used are very lightweight so the flier can keep the kite airborne by moving the feet and maneuvering the kite to keep a little tension on the lines.
Some performers will create a graceful ballet. Others will perform a variety of acrobatics.
Once a competition performance has started the doors are closed and no one is allowed in or out until the performer is done. This is because the opening of the door can cause a draft that affects the flight of the kite.
WORLD QUAD RECORD ATTEMPT
Hosted by John Barresi & KiteLife.com
This will be a world record attempt at mega team flying (100 quad kites) during WSIKF. They will practice during the week and make an attempt on Thursday and Friday (weather permitting).
