2009 Winning Artist Anne Mongrain
Anne Mongrain lives in Vancouver, Washington. She writes:
“I’ve loved drawing since I was very young, filling pages with horses and fashion. As I grew, my love of art grew also and over the years I’ve learned many differend media. Whether it be watercolor or oil, clay or ink, I love to explore and create. There’s just so much beauty to study. I find it interesting that each one of my seven brothers and sisters is an accomplished artist of some sort.
In my youth I attended professional art school in Seattle and in later years I took classes in Vancouver. Most of my life efforts, however, have surrounded my family; they are my real life. But art has always been a close friend, familiar, understanding and settling. Art provides that wonderful, creative ’something’ that is so satisfying and mysterious, joyful and, yes, sometimes frustrating.
I believe we all have gifts of infinite sorts. I’m grateful for the gifts of art in me.
I am so very honored to win this contest. Northwest artists are very stiff competition.”
