Mission: The World Kite Museum & Hall of Fame is dedicated to the thrill, art, science, sport and history of kites and kite flying worldwide. The museum’s exhibits and educational events celebrate the kite as a multicultural art form with events and programs both educational, artful and interactive.

Reporting
Relationship: This position reports to the museum’s Board of Directors, and will directly supervise, hire and train all staff and volunteers.
Position
Description: The Museum Director is responsible for creating/developing and carrying out the plans and policies the museum’s Board of Directors. This person is responsible for managing the museums day to day operations – including, but not limited to all business operations, finance, facility operation and maintenance – as well as all museum events to achieve the Museum’s mission, annual goals and objectives.
These responsibilities include the management and production of the Washington State International Kite Festival coordinating its partnerships with the City of Long Beach and the WSIKF leadership, committees and volunteers.

Duties
- Serve as Day-to-day spokesperson for the World Kite Museum and the Washington State International Kite Festival to provide a high degree of community visibility and viability.
- Develop and manage exhibits, educational programs, and events to attract increasing numbers of visitors while remaining within budget restraints.
- Develop and marketing, promotion, quality of programs, products, services and successful use of social media.
- Develop a growing media presence for both the Museum and the Washington State International Kite Festival.
- Increase museum fund raising for the museum by identifying, cultivating and managing increased fund raising opportunities, sources and prospects.
- Create a volunteer program which trains new and experienced volunteers to understand and assist in the Museums day to day operation.
- Manage the museum’s operations within that budget.
Job
Requirements: The candidate must be energetic and possess a community consciousness, leadership qualities, and event planning and production experience, as well as demonstrated effective organization skills, and the ability to motivate staff, volunteers and community partners.
He/she must be adept at problem solving, leading through process rather than mandate. They should have demonstrated the ability to manage and advance several priorities at the same time.
Specific knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software, grant writing, budget development and management, and experience with creating volunteer support will be considered in a candidate
for this position.
The candidate will set an example of a strong work ethic and have a congenial approach to fellow workers and volunteers, plus be a good listener and have a commitment to learning.
